Description
Ceramic vase with themes drawn from Greek mythology. On one side is depicted the god Apollo and on the other Zeus transformed into a swan with the queen Leda. Hand painted with vivid colors. Ideal souvenir, suitable for decoration.
Μ A mural of rare beauty and artistic boldness came to light in Pompeii. The fresco (fresco) represents the erotic encounter of the legendary queen of Sparta Leda with Zeus, transformed into a swan. This unique find is extremely well preserved and has impressed archaeologists with its rich colors. It was discovered on a room wall of a house in ancient Pompeii almost by accident and is dedicated to a Greek myth that has inspired important artists for centuries. The mural is added to the already rich list of erotic works found in recent years among the ruins of the ancient Roman city. The new find is “exceptional and unique in its sensual themes,” says Massimo Osanna, director of the Pompeii Archaeological Park, referring to the seductive depiction of the myth. “The picture is very different from other more common depictions of the myth found in Pompeii which do not often depict sexual intercourse and usually show Leda standing while being followed by a swan,” Osanna said.
