Agamemnon is one of the most prominent heroes of Greek mythology. King of Mycenae and Argos, perhaps sovereign of the rulers of Mycenaean territory. However, he is considered the most important among them and a general on a pan-Hellenic scale of the campaign against Troy. He was the son of King Atreus of Mycenae and Aeropia, brother of Menelaus and Anaxivia, wife of Clytemnestra, from whom he had three daughters (Iphigenia, Electra and Chrysothemis) and a son, Orestes. On the occasion of the abduction from Paris of the wife of Menelaus’s brother, Eleni, Agamemnon managed to form a large army and fleet from all the Greek cities and to campaign against Troy.
